Basic Overview
You Are Here MUX is a multi-genre game that takes place in the modern day fictional city of Midgard, California. What this means is that players can assume the role of characters from
their favorite book, comic, video-game, movie--any medium--and place them into a wide-variety of situations on the in-character grid, as well as interact with other characters, both those
originally-created by players, as well as characters from their series or other sources.
Once a character has been decided on, a player must consider just what 'type' of character they are. In the yahMUX 'world' there are three types of character types: Foreigners,
Altereds and Natives.
Foreigners are characters who come in as they are from another world/universe/etc. For whatever reason these peoples' souls are snagged by the Benefactors and
deposited here in the yahMUX Earth.
Altereds, on the other hand, are characters who were born in another world and typically died. From there their souls were taken up by the yahMUX world Benefactors and
reincarnated into the yahMUX Earth. This means they live different lives, have different existences--anything. However, they still are tied to this world in a fashion similar to those of the
Foreigners, and the potential to unlock the memories of their 'past life' is there.
Natives are natives to the yahMUX Earth--they are born here, raised here, live here; whatever. But just because they are born in this world does not mean that they aren't
capable of great things--thanks to the influence of Spiritual Wells, the world has psychics and other fascinating people, good and evil.
However, there is one thing very important to note:
If you choose a character from an existing source--such as a character from the DC or Marvel universes, or even characters from an anime or game that takes place in a relatively
normal setting--then you are more than welcome to make said character a Native as opposed to Altered or Foreigner. Why?
If your character's 'hometown' fits the setting that is similar to this one (or isn't relatively or ridiculously outlandish in its fantasy or supernatural flavor) then it's safe to presume that the
city--if fictional--exists in this world. However, this is definitely a 'case-by-case' situation, so it's best to speak to staff and see if it's alright to have your character's city fit into this
world. Chances are staff will OK it.
Submitting a Character Request
Once you have a basic idea in mind for the character you wish to take at You Are Here MUX, the next step is to send to staff via email the basic concept you have in mind. Keep in mind
that while this is not a full-blown application, it should contain enough information for staff to have a good grasp on the character and whether or not it is acceptable to the game.
The basic idea staff would like in an email character request should contain the following:
Name: What is the character's given name?
Source: What series is the character from? If it's original, 'original character' is sufficient enough.
Alignment: Is he a good guy or evil guy, or just plain neutral?
Powers: This is very important and is a must to include. Players should and are expected to list the powers they plan on setting on their character. This gives the staff a
good idea what to expect of this character, and also helps us see if a character may be too powerful to successfully fit into the game's theme.
Weaknesses: A list of the character's weaknesses, to balance any potentially powerful characters out better.
Plans: What are the plans for the character? IC are a must, but OOC plans are also acceptable.
Concept: Just a brief, basic concept of the character's history. A more thorough concept should be set on the character once a player has a character.
Once complete, email the application to the MUX email address. Staff should reply to it as soon as we get a chance to view it. If you do not hear anything in a few hours, please page
a member of staff politely asking. Sometimes we miss an email or two, or get caught up in other matters--there is a channel, HELP, players can hop onto and ask staff questions about
a variety of things. It's there, so please feel free to make use of it.
New Policy
For the interim we're simply accepting character requests on the game. So log in, politely page a staff member with the character you'd like to obtain and begin setting up.
However, should problems with this method arise staff will revert back to our email app policy. So please don't abuse it.
Rejected Character Concepts
While the staff of You Are Here MUX feels that most concepts are acceptable, there are just some concepts that we will not approve of. Characters with ridiculously powerful abilities
or city-leveling powers--such as Dragon Ball Z characters--will most likely be rejected, should they not be considerably toned down. Others, like blatantly sexual characters,
anime-esque hermaphrodites, etc. will be rejected. 'Real life' persons, such as Jesus or Hitler, will be rejected. Angels or demons whose origins do not mesh with the basic theme of the
game will be asked to be reworked or rejected.
Basically, use common sense when considering a character. If the concept makes you hesitate, or the idea is just incredibly ridiculous, chances are staff will not approve. Furthermore,
keep in mind that the city is set in a normal, modern-day setting, and blatantly freakish characters will no doubt find themselves having a hard time being in public or living without
some means of blending in.
Approval Period
While staff will try to be prompt in responding to character requests, please please please keep in mind that we are also human and have our own lives as well. Please do not
bug staff on an hourly or daily basis about the state of your character, and please do not bug staff about emails if staff gives you a reply as to its state. As our approvals require three
staff to review and at least two OKs, approval may take longer. Staff feels that this will help ensure player quality and help maintain the theme much better than single-staff approvals.
If a character is rejected, staff will discuss with the player what about the character did not pass approval and what we'd like to see changed. Staff is considerably fair, and is willing
to help a player out as best we can when we have time.
Once a player has revamped whatever portion of his or her application that held them up in approval, the staff member in charge of that character will review the player and see if they
better fit what staff was looking for. Upon approval a player may go IC and interact with the rest of the grid.
