Harassment

Players need to keep one golden rule in mind: this is a game. That being said, players need to realize that this is also a game with a variety of participants, most of which probably have vastly different views and opinions from your own--and you may not agree with them.

But just because you do not agree with what someone says does not give you the right or authority to harass or publically humiliate someone. As we presume our players are over the age of eighteen and are legally considered adults we expect them to act as such. We're all here to have fun with one another, not police people who refuse to act immature toward one another.

Staff Involvement

Because we expect our mature players to act their age we will not tolerate harassment. If a player approaches staff with a complaint, staff will investigate the matter before making a decision on the matter. After all, some people thrive on 'drama' and make false claims to stir up trouble, and this just isn't fair to the innocent parties involved.

Depending the nature and subject of what staff must deal with, a decision and/or a 'punishment' that best suits the 'offense' will be exercised, usually by way of verbal warning for the first two offenses before disciplinary action will be taken.

Other Mediums

As staff, it is our duty to keep peace among the players on our game. This does not mean that it is our job to police others' actions and behavior toward you in other mediums--most popularly, LiveJournal (www.livejournal.com). Should a player seek to harass you beyond the MUX itself, it is your job to take it to whoever is in charge of those mediums--not us.

It is your decision whether or not to publically disclose your email address, LiveJournal or other information to other players or the MUX as a whole, not ours, nor do we force you to do so. So think before you post. We would hope, however, that no such problems arise.

Drama

As poetic as the word may be, 'drama' is a word that many players have come to loathe. Drama is also considered another form of harassment here at yahMUX, as it generally winds up being one person pubically (usually in front of a handful of others) whining or expressing a certain dislike or hatred toward a person (or persons) or something that they do not particularly enjoy on the same game.

Drama will not be tolerated on the game. If you do not like someone or something, either take your complaints directly to staff, to the party involved or take them in private--or even your 'journal,' if you're so inclined. But do not stir up drama in a public room in front of parties who do not want to hear or be subjected or even involved in your drama.

We are here to have fun--not slosh through someone's woes against our wills.

Alt Characters

Here on You Are Here MUX, we understand that people wish to play a variety of characters, whether that be to satisfy the simple urge to play a certain character, playing alongside your friends, or what have you. To carefully balance the want for different characters, as well as the scope and size of the game, each individual player is entitled to three (3) powered characters, be they from any established series (such as Bleach or Buffy the Vampire Slayer), or an original character, as well as an unlimited amount of 'unpowered' alts, from an established series or an original character.

Featured characters (FCs) are alts from established series. They can be either Foreigners, Natives or Altereds. Even if a character apping as an Altered has no supernatural powers at the beginning of their play, the potential to unlock them is still there--they also are, in a sense, still counted toward the three (3) alt rule. Native characters, who possess no powers (or rather, skills that could be described as 'supernatural,' such as telekinesis, or physics-defying physical moves, like the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu), are considered 'unpowered OCs', which any individual player may have a limitless number of, though this may be subject to change in the future. If an OC has powers as described above, they count towards the three (3) alt limit. Please note that being 'skilled' (such as knowing how to operate guns, having non-special martial arts, et cetera) does not count as being 'powered'. If you are unsure if your potential OC is powered or not, please feel free to ask a staffer for clarification.

It should also be noted that if an unpowered OC is in a position where he may gain powers, the OC then counts towards the three (3) alt limit. If the player is already full up on alts, then the scene may need to be retconned, or an alt tossed out.

After the first alt is applied for, the player must wait two weeks (14 days) in order to request a new character. This is simply to allow time to settle into a character and get started on roleplay, as well as to gauge that player's activity (that is, if he doesn't play enough, it's possible that he may be denied another alt). However, powered alts and normal alt 'timers' are considered separate. For instance, if a player applies for a powerd character as his first alt, then three days later, wants to app an OC, it is permissible. 14 days after he apped his powered alt, he can apply for another powered alt, but not another unpowered alt. Three days after this day, he may then apply for an unpowered alt.

Additionally, the staff at yahMUX realize that evil is an important part to any game, but not many like to play evil. As an incentive, if a player apps for a character who is 'evil', they will receive one (1) free powered character slot, that may be whatever they wish. Should this slot be filled by another evil character, we will again reward another free powered alt slot, but two is the limit. In this way, players may play two evil characters, and have three other slots for whatever they wish. However, the extra alt slot will not be awarded until the end of the two week wait is up. This allows for us to gauge the evil alt's activity, so that no abuse can occur.

Keep in mind that depending on a player's behavior, as well as their activity ICly, staff is willing to bend the rules on a case-by-case basis from time to time, though we feel the rule is fair enough as-is. Also keep in mind that this policy change is subject to change, should staff foresee a problem or abuse. Also, a note: staff is the ultimate voice in deciding whether or not a character is powered or unpowered--for instance, someone who apps a normal character with a mecha suit or the like would likely count as a powered alt against them.

Canon Behavior

This policy is quite simple--roleplay the character as he or she would be from their source material. This applies for Feature Characters, Foreigner or Altered. Despite having different stipulations, the characters are still the same as they are from the source materials from which they are taken. The reason such a rule is in place in the first place is because it prevents a clash between players in the same cast, and also complaints for people in general. This also means that your character should not act heterosexual if he is canonly gay. It's harsh, but it only prevents players from coming to staff with character complaints and prevents you, the player, from being put on the spot--and no one likes that.

Canon behavior is common sense. If there are any questions about this policy or any complaints about a player's non-canon behavior, please contact a member of staff.

Consent Rules

The concept of 'consent' plays a big role in the world of MU*ing. It is what decides how the story will continue to progress after a certain point in interaction between a group of characters. Everyone--everyone--has the right to to consent, and no one can say otherwise. The staff of You Are Here MUX feels that every player has the given right to decide the outcome of his or her character.

Consent Rule #1: Death

Before going onward in a scene in which the fate of a PC lies in the hands of another, consent of both parties must be reached. Staff does not stress PK (playerkill) at all, and staff reccomends that such extremes never be met. But, as everyone knows, we do realize that it might come into play now and then. If neither party can come to a full decision, the players may then ask for staff intervention. Again, however, we do not stress this. We ask that players solve their problems between themselves rather than through staff. Not all players may like the outcome of a scene that a staff member gets involved. However, we do not foresee this being a problem.

Consent Rule #2: Permanent Alterations

There's death, and then there's permanent alterations. By this we mean that a character in this instance would have something done to his or her self that would permanently alter them, either mentally or physically. For instance, losing a limb or arm, or having one's memory erased, mind slavery, etc. If roleplay comes to this instance, the parties must both reach an agreement before continuing down that path of roleplay. If neither party can reach an agreement, they may call upon staff for a ruling on the situation. But as stated before, this is not stressed, and neither party may like the decision made by staff.

Consent Rule #3: Kidnapping

One of the best ways for a villain (or hero) to get his or her way in situations is by kidnapping their opposition's allies or those close to the foe. In MUX terms, this is known as 'imprisonment' rather than being held hostage. Players should not be forced into having their PC imprisoned for long periods of RL or IC time, because this derives them of any or all roleplay. If players are kidnapped and do, however, consent to it, they agree to being subject to this. But if a player does not wish to be imprisoned and kept from potential roleplay, then both parties should come to a decision on how to work the situation out.

Consent Rule #4: Sexually-Oriented Content

We're all adults here, and sex is just a part of life. But just because we all understand that does not mean that players on the MUX are subject to any or all sexually-oriented material or content. A player should never be forced into a sexual situation and has the right to object to such should it come into play. Especially the subject of rape. No player has the right to force these sessions of roleplay onto another nor should they ever be forced on someone. A player has the right to fade to black should they desire to continue on with the course of sexually-oriented content for the sake of in-character-ness but do not wish to take a part in TinySex, or TS. A player also has the right to decide whether or not they wish for their character to get out of an adult situation, and parties involved should respect that player's rights of consent.

Please respect other players' rights and allow for options to be presented if they so desire it. We're all here to have fun, not be forced into situations or losing characters we all have worked hard on.

Idle Behavior

If a player who is in possession of a character is idle for more than 30 days, staff will warn the player that he or she is in danger of losing that character, usually by posting on the MUX or in the MUX livejournal. A player has 7 days after they receive a reminder from staff to respond, and if no response is received, a player will then lose his or her possession of that character and it will be available for others to apply for. If you're going to be out of town or will have to take a temporary leave, let staff and others know to ensure your character's preservation.

Character Squatting is when a player assumes the role of a character, but does not do anything more than just 'sit' on that character. A player instead fills the spot, letting the character sit but does nothing more than that. And that's just annoying.

Please. All characters should be taken out and roleplay with people. Players should not just sit around in their apartments roleplaying with just a handful of players, nor should they sit around doing nothing, such as idling in the OOC areas--they are expected to go out and roleplaye with the rest of the grid and socialize. If staff receives complaints from anyone, be it fellow members of that character's cast or players in general, staff will speak with that player and encourage they go out and seek roleplay. If more than 3 complaints are received, a player will then have his character revoked, and the player cannot resume the character until he or she proves that they will be active with another alt. During this probation, staff cannot and will not guarantee that their old character is 'saved' for them until they prove reliable.

Building Guidelines

You Are Here MUX's building policy is fairly leniant, but like many MU*s, we do have particular ways in which we wish to have things done in order to ensure that all of our grid is kept looking nice, uniform and organized.

All building projects must first be requested to staff, who will then, from there open for the player an exit in the Construction Zone and the player given his or her respective amounts of quota.

1. All objects built for public use (ie: restaurant, shops, etc.) will be @chowned by staff once it has been approved and linked to the IC grid.

2. Private structures' main exits (ie: the exits to the public IC grid) will also be @chowned by staff. The rest of this will be owned by its respective owners.

3. All buildings should be structured similar to the rest of the grid. There is a sample building in the Construction Zone to give players an idea of what to follow.

4. ALL exits need their @osucc, @succ, @odrop and @desc flags set. In some cases @ofail and @fail flags should be set; however, they are not required.

Any questions can be directed to the head of the Building Staff.
